Um jetzt nicht gleich wieder alle Menschen mit fehlendem Metalhintergrund abzuschrecken (hallo Anne :) ), beginnt dieser Blogeintrag nicht am Anfang sondern am Ende, das da lautet:

Wie gut sich das Blog liest, lässt sich an El Cuervos Artikel zum Album Through Darkness Into Light von The Visit erahnen:

Through Darkness Into Light is quite stunning in its simplicity. There’s Weinroth-Browne on the cello. And Sita Black singing. And that’s it. Sure, there’s some studio witchcraft permitting layers of cello and vocals but we can give them that one. There’s no gimmicks nor anywhere to hide for either musician. There’s also no compromise in the execution of their stark vision. The record is desolate and cold but gradually progresses to a more ambiguous place where hope isn’t too far off. The Visit take you on a journey of moods where the technicalities of the music they’re producing scarcely seems relevant.

Na? Ist das gut geschrieben? Und ist das hier mal tolle Mucke oder was?

So, und jetzt zum Anfang des Artikels:

Das Blog Angry Metal Guy lese ich seit einigen Monaten und nun möchte ich endlich mal eine Lanze dafür brechen. Wie der Blogtitel erwarten lässt, dreht sich bei AMG alles um Musik und 99% um Metal. Hauptsächlich werden Platten besprochen und die Trefferrate der Reviews deckt sich sehr oft mit meinem eigenen Empfinden - zumindest, wenn ich überhaupt in das besprochene Album rein höre (so z.B. zu Slayers aktuellem Album Repentless: "I don’t know who influenced the band’s descent into down-tuned chug territory — Machine Head? Black Label Society? — but it’s not good and it needs to stop.").

Entgegen des Blogtitels schreibt dort nämlich nicht nur ein Angry Metal Guy sondern eine ganze Schar davon und entsprechend groß ist die Bandbreite der vorgestellten Scheiben. Von Hair Metal und Hard Rock ist über Power und Heavy Metal bis hin zu Thrash, Death und Progressive Vegetarian Grindcore alles dabei, was mindestens 4 verzerrte Saiten und ein Mikro hat.

Sämtlichen Schreiberlingen gemein ist ihr tiefes Empfinden für und ihr großes Wissen um Musik, das sie allesamt in eloquente Worte zu fassen und dem interessierten Publikum mit Witz und Charme zu vermitteln wissen. El Cuervos Artikel endet mit folgendem Absatz, für den ich ihm (ihr?) gerne persönlich gratuliert hätte, wenn man denn bei AMG auch ohne Facebook/Disqus/Twitter/Google-Account kommentieren könnte :(

I read an article which posited that people whose personalities fit most strongly into the ‘openness to experience’ group – those who typically enjoy classical, jazz and metal – are the type to experience a greater emotional range in response to sad music. Further than what the majority merely identifies as ‘sadness,’ nostalgia, peacefulness and wonder are noted. Perhaps this is why metal is close to so many hearts (or at least Heartworks…), exposing labyrinthine emotions to the harsh light of day in a way which they aren’t in popular music. The greatest achievement of Through Darkness Into Light is how it effortlessly elicits such a range of subdued emotions beyond ‘sadness.’ The undemanding nature of the music places limitations on the number of consecutive listens I could manage without transferring to something more immediate, but this is an almost impossibly beautiful release. I hope it doesn’t fall on the deaf ears of those who scream “MOAR BLAST BEATS” into the pale, misty, trve mornings.

Wäre der angesprochene Artikel dann auch noch verlinkt, wäre AMG klarer Anwärter auf den Blog-des-Jahres-Pokal. Macht nix, so kann ich noch ein bisschen überlegen, wer Blog des Jahres wird und habe trotzdem endlich das überfällige Angry-Metal-Guy-Tribut von der Backe.

tl;dr: The Visit machen tolle schräge Musik und Angry Metal Guy ist ein tolles schräges Musikblog.
