Es gibt ein Buch von Cory Doctorow namens "Little Brother". Es ist ein Jugendroman und es geht um Jugend in Zeiten von Internet, Hacking, Überwachungsstaat und was man dagegen tun kann. Das Buch ist spannend und nebenbei extrem erhellend. Und es wäre - glaube ich - eine echt coole Sache, wenn dieses Buch plötzlich auf den Bestsellerlisten erscheinen würde. Obwohl es schon November 2011 erschienen ist.

Ich werde am kommenden Samstag, den 17. August, in einen Kölner Buchladen gehen und zwei oder drei Ausgaben davon kaufen. Meine Kinder bekommen je eines und das Dritte behalte ich. Vielleicht kaufe ich auch ein, zwei mehr und verschenke sie an Freundinnen und Freunde meiner Kinder.

Was ich cool fände:

Wenn ihr das auch machen würdet. Also am Samstag in den Buchladen gehen und das Buch für eure oder die Kinder von Freunden kaufen. Oder es bei Amazon Lehmanns bestellen. Oder für den eReader kaufen. Ich weiß nicht, wie viele Bücher an einem Tag oder in einer Woche gekauft werden müssen, damit es in die Bestsellerlisten rutscht, kann sein dass ich das zu easy sehe. Aber auch wenn das nicht passiert würden viele unserer Kinder ein Buch geschenkt bekommen, dass sie auf etwas wichtiges aufmerksam macht und sie mit viel Detailwissen ausstattet, um sich in der kommenden Welt zurechtzufinden.

Denn das Buch ist nicht nur ein spannendes Jugendbuch. Es ist eine Anleitung für den Umgang mit Überwachung und wie man sich dagegen wehren kann. Und ich glaube, dass unsere Kinder eine solche Anleitung ganz gut gebrauchen können.

There is a book by Cory Doctorow: Little Brother. It's a young adults book that tells a story about youth in the times of internet, hacking, surveillance and what one can do against it. It's really exciting and along the way instructional. And it would be a nice signal if it got a place on the bestsellerlists all of a sudden, in spite of being released over a year ago.

I will go into a book store next saturday, August the 17th, and buy three of those books. One for each of my sons and one for my own bookshelf. Perhaps i'll buy one or two more to give them to some of my kids friends.

What would be cool now: If a lot of parents would do the same on that day. Or get it at Amazon. Or buy it for your eReader. I don't know how many book must be sold on one day or week to really make an impact on a bestsellerlist and it's perfectly possible that i see things too easy. But it doesn't really matter in the end because a lot of kids will get a great book that calls attention to an important issue and provides a lot of details about the world they will eventually live in when they grow up.

Because it's not only a thriller for kids. It's a manual for handling surveillance and how to avoid it. And i believe that our kids such a manual can be very useful.
